This event kinda of died because everyone, including myself admittedly, never got it going D:.
I want to bring this back to life tho!
EVERY night, a group of players (the people of #odagames) will pick a game for us to play the next day. The next day at 7:00 CST we will gather in the server and get the games going! Both Ralphis and I have access to DTX1, and I'm sure if neither of us are around GhostlyDeath would be happy to substitute.
Tonight the game will be OMGMAPS FFA!
Thoughts?
I want to start having simple CTF sessions every couple of weeks to get people more interested in Odamex. People never play Odamex, and I feel this is a shame because Odamex can be a blast with several people in a server.
So, to spark interest and actually have people IN the servers, I want to start hosting CTF sessions if people are interested. We can vote which CTF wads to play and what dmflags to use a few days before the session. The servers I manage are the [TX-Dallas] CoffeeNet.org servers. I already host 32in24-4 on one server and odactf1 + 2cctg on another CTF server. (If there are more CTF wads that are Odamex compatible, please tell me, I'd be glad to add it to the map rotation of the mixed wads server :) )
Anyway it will start off simple, just games of CTF. However if it becomes popular, I and a few others may try some things to make the sessions even better. I am willing give a few people the RCON to the session server(s), that way if something goes wrong and I'm not around they can manage it.
I want to know the opinions of plenty of people before the release of .35, that way when .35 roles around we can get started.
Who likes the idea? Who would be willing to help if I need it? Who will actually SHOW UP for games? Questions/Comments/Concerns are welcome.

sounds like fun, I could play some as long as others play some
-
Id help and play. Although, depending on the date and time, I might not always be around to play.
-
Only two so far? Man I was hoping people would be jumping all over this X_x
-
Make that three.

18:18:44 <RedZTag> CTF!
EDIT: GMT+12 WEEKENDS ONLY
-
I'd be happy to show up for some games. I've kinda been neglecting Odamex lately. Time for that to change!
-
Are all the servers using something newer than 0.3? I tried connecting to a few today and it dumped me to the console with a bunch of hex digits.
Maybe that's why I don't see anyone else on...

Yes actually. I update my servers to the latest build every once in a while.
You can find new builds for Odamex (and other source ports) here (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=211429).

d'oh.
I'll give the SVN code a try first (all I see there are windows builds)
[Edit:] nope, same thing. :(
I get something like this on every server, sometimes the numbers are different but it always has a long string of them:

Perhaps your doom2.wad isn't the latest version (1.9). Update!
-
I never would've thought of doing that. :/
I've already got 1.9 though... (according to this (http://doom.wikia.com/wiki/Doom_files))
(also if it's any help the error numbers don't appear anywhere in what gets sent over the network)
-
Odamex CTF?I'm ready! :) When the game starts?
And what version?0.3 or latest build?
-
After the release of .35

Server needs to build without optimization or lower it at least (NO -O3 but -O2 might work)
-
*facepalm*
O1 worked. Thanks.

I really want to get this going some time now that 0.4 is out. Anyone still interested? If so I'll get a few helpers and see if we can get some kind of odaparty going on once a week or so.
-
Yeah, I'm totally interested, but I don't think we should just focus on CTF; we should focus on other game modes as well, since CTF has pretty much been the dominant game mode on ZDaemon for the past several years, and to keep placing more focus on it than on any other game mode is trite and uninteresting.
We ought to try to play as big of a variety of WADs as possible, too.

I agree with you Naut.
I have started a new channel for arranging games in. It is #odagames on irc.oftc.net. In it we'll discuss ways to bring more players and most of all, PLAY ODAMEX. I encourage EVERYONE to join the channel to raise interest :).

I'm usually on the co-op servers a lot. Only problem is that I usually end up breaking the maps on accident leaving them unfinishable.
(That's the third one this week)

Some wads just aren't made for coop and it has to be the good ones :(

It's always one of two things: A one-way trap door closes blocking off a key (and then I die in the key room because I suck), or one closes blocking off the rest of the level.
Maybe there should be a server setting to reset the level after some length of time with the server empty. Or if all the players stay dead for a minute or something. How about a voting system?
-
you can always turn emptyreset on, which resets the map after all players leave
-
That'd work too I suppose. Just need to get the co-op servers to actually use it...
