Killing all the Commander Keens to trigger sector 666 in any level does not seem to work in DOOM in Hexen mode, so I'm curious what people are using as an alternative?

Thankx!

Technical Support / Old ZDOOM, BOOM, and MBF Bit Support for BEX

« on: February 05, 2013, 20:16:46 »
We have support for Railguns which is a plus, but I can not seem to get any of the old ZDOOM bits to work as featured here:

http://www.aspectsweb.co.uk/dehacked/bex02.html

I believe these existed in ZDOOM 1.22 and earlier, so I assume this is just a feature that happens to be broken like the MBF bits and new thing types?

Regardless if Decorate support is planned for the future or not, these features could be used now to expand upon the old Deh which we must work with in order to create new weapons and enemies. While I would prefer Decorate, I can live with the old school methods as well, though I'd prefer to have these and possibly MBF's features re-implemented. BOOM's as well.

Fingers crossed so tightly the blood pressure is cutting off. ;)

Alright, I can not get it to work so I presume it does not work seeing as it does work in GzDOOM. Can someone confirm as to weather or not this is supposed to be a supported feature at this point or not? I do not want to submit another bug if it is in fact not a supported feature.

Thank you.

Are you referring to sectors 5 or 6? It is sector 4 that I am having the issues with. Anytime the player is on the slope he can not swim, anywhere else I can swim just fine.

I can not swim in that section in Odamex, but can in GzDOOM.

I posted the pWAD.

If you just in the water that is on flat land, the water works fine, but as soon as you begin to go down the inclined plane, the water effect stops working.

Note I also have the Ceiling messed up as when the properties of the controlling sector transfer, the slop is connecting the ceiling to the same height as the floor and I'm not sure why.

I'm not a developer, and this is not my project so it is not my place to try to call the shots obviously, but as someone who is trying to map for Odamex (as TC to be exact), all I can say is that I would absolutely love to see Odamex given as much of ZDOOM's flexibility as possible, especially where running Rex's Star Wars classic is concerned! ;)

Though again, it is not I who have to undertake all the hard work in that regards, but I would be grateful as would my XBOX and AROS machine!

Technical Support / Sloped Water

Is sloped eventually going to be supported, or is that something that was not featured in ZDOOM 1.22 or 1.23?

I'm having trouble with the water ceiling, but here's a basic example of what I'm trying to do. Works in GzDOOM, but in Odamex the sloped water does not have effect.

Sadly that has not been posted on for some time. Then again these forums rarely seem busy either.

I'd love to contribute to such a listing though, maybe start up an official one here perhaps?

I think we really need a clear list as to what features are supported and are intended to work and be used with Odamex, and which features to stay away from, ones that are never intended to be made to work, or which may be removed from support sometime in the future.

Likewise, if Odamex had it's own DOOM Builder 2 config, that would save us all a lot of stress too!

Technical Support / Re: Creating Slopes in DOOM Format?

Oh no...

And by "nasty surprises" do you mean I will find a lot of things that do not work as one might expect them to, do you mean a lot more features are soon to be supported in the next release, or do you mean to say that much of the work I am doing now might end up unsupported and the features I used commented out (or something) in the next release?!?

Tell me, I'm anxious to know!!! ;)

On that note, I do enjoy the features that I am finding do work. If not all the old WADs work right, then that just means that new ones custom made for Odamex are due. ;)

I just stumbled upon an interesting list of pWADs that would be worth trying out.

And now that I took the time to learn how to use DOOM World's pWAD search engine better, I find this thread a kinda pointless. Though I'm sure there are plenty of quality pWADs out there created post 2002 (ZDOOM 1.23 era) that work just fine. Other that should but do not Darkest Hour) because of bugs or choices made by the authors of Odamex.

Likewise I have noticed that MBF's BEX features are not supported, and that some maps like the WolfendDOOM and KzDOOM sereies, appear to work fine, but produce strange missing sprite icons through out the game.

I think in this sense, a list of what does not work would be useful, though I'd still love a list of hidden treasures made for ZDOOM 1.22 and 1.23 as well as some old PrBOOM and Vanilla gems too.

Hmm, it appears that I do not need to edit in DOOM format at all! I feel like I'm the last to learn what I can do in regards to Odamex editing. :)
