General Discussion / Re: odamex woes

Wad downloading is disabled on the odamex.net servers, but Manc might have reenabled it while I was sleeping.

General Discussion / Re: First play of Odamex. :O

Thanks! It's great to hear that despite obvious bugs being present, people can still enjoy a game of Doom and appreciate the effort we've done to get this out for you guys to play/test/what say you.

Devoblog / Code has been audited

« on: January 15, 2007, 00:03:39 »
That's right, we've come to the general consensus that the code is now currently GPL compatible after numerous discussions between developers.

Now the next stage is to include GPL headers on each file that ends with .cpp or .h, and to setup SVN for public read access. How long will this take? Not very long, my faithful followers!

Does this mean that a formal release is imminent? Sorry, but not today. There's still many bugs to fix, but we believe that with public source code access we can squash these at a much faster rate.

Origin of Odamex: Another lengthy discussion to change the name from Zwango provides Odamex.

As for the crescent, I have no idea. Manc thought it looked cool, I guess. He did the logo so full props to him.

Not at the moment. We want to get the first pack formally released so we can set the standard for future Odamex CTF packs.

General Discussion / Re: Fascinating

I have pretty good feelings about the Odamex team, even ole carrot-top,
=D

It's always good to have faith in me. Still, any support is good support, so I appreciate everyone sticking around while some of us study for exams and others work at their jobs. It's not exactly easy for most of us to dedicate much time to Odamex, but we can do as much as we can.

Technical Support / Re: MS-DOS!!

The very last version of ZDoom to support DOS was 2.17.
I believe you mean 1.17, but yeah, everything that Alex said (regarding SDL and DOS) is true.

Developer's Corner / Re: Game-affecting variables

You won't be seeing it in Odamex itself. We want to keep it as close to Doom as possible but with a few new additions to bring life to it. However, that doesn't prevent you from making a fork of Odamex and adding all the features yourself!

I don't know about this. They (sv_damage in particular) sway a bit too far from Doom for my liking.

Of course, one could argue that I'm being a hypocrite since CTF is in Odamex, but that has proven to be perfectly playable in a standard Doom environment.

DECORATE does not exist in Odamex.

Technical Support / Re: wx based GetWad replacement

Of course, this would wind up into doom2.wad piracy by rebellious servers.
Not likely, unless some server admin edits out the code that excludes doom.wad/doom2.wad from being sent and recompiles it.
