Devoblog / Feature freeze

« on: May 17, 2008, 21:05:46 »
Odamex has undergone a feature freeze for the upcoming 0.4.0 release.

Because of this, only bugfix patches are currently being accepted (post to relevant bug). So for all you developers out there, please take a look at the metabug to see what you can do to help get 0.4.0 out the door sooner.

Technical Support / Re: Cannot JUMP in Odamex

« on: May 03, 2008, 23:21:13 »
Hmm... the 0.3 that is on the download is dated 11-03-2007, but the bug report/fix in the link above is dated 11-14-2007 (r 495)... does that mean that the downloadable version didn't have the bug fix in it? I'm still not able to jump... I even installed a fresh copy of DOOM2 and re-extracted the Odamex package from the original zip, and tried the exact steps you mention above.

Correct.

I'm using the Win32 version. Is there a compiled trunk somewhere that I can try? If not I'll just wait for 0.4 and use 0.2 in the meantime. Thanks

There are some unofficial builds of trunk here (very outdated though and may not work with some servers), we don't offer support for these builds as they are third party, use at your own risk.

Technical Support / Re: Cannot JUMP in Odamex

Weird. I don't seem to have this problem.

Heres how I did it (in 0.3 and trunk):

1) Ran the client, started map01 and opened the console
2) Typed in "allowjump 1" and bound the jump key

However, I did discover that at the titlescreen when first starting the client (before the demos start), I could not set allowjump 1 in the console, got this message:

"allowjump is under server control and cannot be changed"

Devoblog / Odamex Magfest VI Pics and CTF video

« on: April 11, 2008, 21:11:09 »
Here it is, better late than never, the official pictures and video from the Odamex Magfest event.

While they didn't enter the tournament officially, our team had a bonus match and won 5 - 0 against the winning team, not bad eh?

And here they are, The pics and The video.

Thanks to RottKing for taking these pics and the rest of the team for setting it up, great work guys!

Technical Support / Re: MIDI on Linux?

You can probably blame timidity, if it doesn't just happen with sdl apps, but other programs/programs that use libraries like openal and whatnot.. then it has to be timidity.

you can use a tunnel broker like freenet6, which makes it relatively seamless to set it up

I apologize for the lack of mention, I'll get on to that right away.

Why is everyone doing this instead of just fixing the actual problem?

It fixed a bug in an older SDL_mixer version.

On another note, Simon had some ipv6 code for SDL_net that was never incorporated, bit of a shame really.

Technical Support / Re: Launcher(s) todo list.

« on: November 04, 2007, 22:33:29 »
Hey HyperEye! Long time no see :)

Yeah, as you can see the launcher does need a lot of work,
posix threads are an interesting implementation, apparently wxwidgets also has its own threading system aswell (check: http://www.wxwidgets.org/manuals/stable/wx_wxthreadoverview.html)

If you'd like, stop by irc for a chat: irc.oftc.net #odamex :)

No, there is no account system with odamex.
Experience system would be a waste of time anyway.

General Discussion / Re: "bug dump" thread

« on: September 08, 2007, 21:40:22 »
Its a good thing they're actually marked as corpses (IE
they will disappear after a while I think)

Odamex is very stable, I've hardly had it crash at all
(especially in the latest svn releases)

I think the music volume control is an sdl bug, it does work
but on some midi synthesizer's it doesn't ie: timidity
windows driver.

You can try upgrading sdl to 1.2.12 and see if that does
anything.

Looks good. may I suggest getting another release out on
that day, it can be a release party too!

Speaking of releases and to kinda throw off the topic..
check out this thread

Oh and shouldn't this be in the news forum?

Developer's Corner / New Release

« on: September 08, 2007, 21:26:42 »
In regards to this thread, I think we should start
planning for a new release.

Odamex is already quite stable, a lot of crashing problems
have been fixed, we really need to go into BETA status
aswell, even 0.2 could've been marked beta as I've said
before.

This is an idea that shouldn't be thrown aside, we need to
put some serious consideration into it.

Technical Support / Feature: enable/disable

« on: July 23, 2007, 05:21:10 »
Here I have a patch that makes it easy for a user of odamex
to set console variables.

It allows the user to type, for example:

set cl_run enabled

or just

cl_run enabled

If the user just wants the value

] cl_run
"cl_run" is enabled.

With this patch, there is 1 issue that I know of:
enabled/disabled doesn't get saved to config (yet)

Test it out and vote if you like it or not. (the attached
file is a txt, rename it to a patch/diff extension)
