Updated the link again

She emailed us a new version with added map05 and custom intermission level names. she did them herself (we were going to help her) and we might still have to because they look kinda odd to be honest.

map05 is smaller than the rest. pretty fast paced, good for adrenaline and kamila and I played 2 player DM on it before uploading the file. Works well for that too =)

Glad you like them! Kamila wants to ask her to do some maps for Dimensions =P

She actually maps more interesting levels than me... its weird!

To each their own. Like I said in the OP, I can't speak for everyone

I find her maps very interesting for someone who had never touched DOOM before six months ago, others may not =P

Updated the download link.

Maps 03 and 04 are now in the zipped file =)

Yes, we're aware of the broken link and we'll be fixing it when we upload a new version of the file. The forums weren't loading for us the other day so we weren't able to fix it sooner.

No, I don't think 11 year olds are dumb, actually, quite the opposite. Though I'm confused as to why you would get that idea from the part you quoted. Its just an amazing technical feat. Or at least it was when I was 11.

I can’t speak for everyone of course but, at my age, I find it both interesting and amazing when a young person asks about an old computer game like DOOM.

This story is in fact so interesting, I’m having trouble picking a good place to start, so, I’ll start at the beginning!

Last summer a close friend of ours took a quick trip to France in order to bring a distant relative to the states. Our friend didn’t give too much info (she never does, FYI) and so we were naturally curious when our friend came back a few weeks later (I guess that’s what some people call a quick trip?).

As it was, the others and myself were sitting around two computers using DOOM Builder before our friend arrived with Gabrielle. Yeah I know, she sounds like the angelic blonde every father wants as a daughter but knows he’ll go through hell by the time she’s fifteen… Well, she is rather angelic and blonde but that isn’t quite the point. The point is, we met her, our friend yacked and yacked about her trip and Gabrielle seemed bored with the conversation (her English is rather poor) so she took a gander over to the computers and asked “What we were drawing”.

You might be wondering why this is in the mods and wads forum by now, but, just wait for it.
The drawing she referred to was the incomplete (and admittedly terrible) map design sitting in DOOM builder we had been fighting with all day.

To make a long story somewhat short, we found out she likes to draw and is quite good at it. Kamila ended up giving her a second boxed copy of the 2004 DOOM Collectors edition (the doom 3 preview one) and a week or so later we helped her get set up and play around with it on her own very old laptop.
We ended up explaining as best we could the whole doom builder thing again to her and she said she had found a guide by a doctor online on how to use it. (She meant DR. Sleep, I believe) so we ended up setting up DOOM builder on her laptop.

Fast forward to this evening around 5PM, she came over with our friend and had a thumb drive in her hand and said she wanted to show us something. So after dinner, Kamila copied over a wadfile called demon laden (spelt wrong of course).

All I can really say is, I’m actually stunned. I mean, at 11, I don’t think I could’ve done what she had done in a matter of months with all that learning involved. Shoot, I don’t think I could do that now =P

Anywho, it’s only two levels so far for DOOM II. They’re smallish like what you might find in the Sythe series. We just wanted to share it and see what the DOOM community thinks!

It’s mapped completely in regular DOOM2 format so the best play experience will probably come from using chocolate doom. We helped her write up a small text file for it.

Here is the link for the download:
http://files.drdteam.org/index.php/files/get/3WsnLzv77y/demonladen.zip

There’s a lot I could say but I’ve typed about 600 words already here =P

I think she avoided making a mistake unlike myself and the rest of our group by starting mapping in vanilla compatible mode first and learning how it all works instead of starting off in ZDoom or Legacy.

Anyway, feel free to post feedback and whatnot. I realize it might not be much compared to folks around here who have been mapping for 15+ years but, for an 11 year old and 6 months of tinkering with something completely new to her, it isn’t half bad in my opinion =)

Little Temple Group

EDIT:

Also, we forgot to add a part in the text file that yes

Difficulties are supported.
Coop is supported
And DM

EDIT#2

Gabrielle told us she forgot to flag difficulties on the monsters in MAP02 so in the current file, playing on different difficulty settings wont change the number of baddies in MAP02 =P Oops!

She says she'll bring by an updated version when she finishes a few more maps. Glad to know she's going to keep at it!

General Discussion / DOOM II - Dimensions OST released!

« on: January 22, 2013, 15:59:48 »
Today our music composer, Abiageal O'Meara released the full Dimensions OST on youtube. We figured since it's completely DOOM related and will appear in full in our megawad currently in progress, we should share it with the Odamex community!

We, along with Abiageal hope you enjoy!

General Discussion / Re: Wad's In Progress?

Quite the shame really. Oh well, we've got these forums and DOOM world. As long as idgames database doesn't get abandoned before our project is finished, we should come out okay.

Maps, Wads and Mods / Re: DOOM II - Dimensions

« on: January 06, 2013, 18:14:37 »
MAP 03 "Castle of Darkness" has been added along with deathmatch starts. We tested with bots and it actually makes an excellent DM map.

The main levels wad now has Map info along with appropriate skies.

The DMUS wad has been majorly updated. Instead of trying to convert to ogg ourselves, we finally asked Abiageal O'Meara to do it. She managed to get the file size down from 54.MB to a mere 7MB.

The DMUS file also includes the custom sound effects, adding only a few extra hundred KB to the overall file size.

Someone gave us feedback on how easy the first level was last time thus we made it slightly more difficult, we'd appreciate the same feedback for MAP03.

Just a little update while we work on MAP03.

We think the sound track by Abiageal O'Meara is just as important as the levels themselves and should receive some coverage.

The following is whats there so far and hints of whats to come. Enjoy! Also, just in case, Abiageal O'Meara can currently be contacted at this address - Abbey0237@gmail.com

Also, the flags for things/decs in MAP01 have been fixed for DM, along with the difficulty and a stubborn lift in MAP02

Maps, Wads and Mods / DOOM II - Dimensions

« on: December 31, 2012, 04:28:05 »
Yes, Kamila won us over with some designs for levels which didn't fit our previous project, Projekt Xero and so, we decided to give "Dimensions" a go for the time being as smaller maps apparently appeal more to us right now than we thought.

Projekt Xero will of course be finished as well, just a lot later. We figured we could learn a lot working with smaller maps and apply them later to projekt zero.

Abiageal O'Meara has of course been working on a score for this wad, though we aren't demanding 38 tracks out of her for this one!

She of course said she is finishing the projekt xero soundtrack next, even if it's done two years before our levels are.

So, without further delay... here we go. I've decided to copy the README file as it basically says everything, and you wont have to read it later!

STORY:

Genesis -

The Union Aerospace Corporation (UAC) have finally put the decade old complexes to use. They have finally began setting up and testing successfully completed teleportation prototypes. Things go in one end, and come out the other in one piece. Well, accept for the first test, the cat's tail came back though! (poor kitty)

Success -

With the teleporters working and news spreading all over the world of what the future might hold, job offers by the UAC are snatched up like water in the valleys of sand. The UAC never considered what kind of people may be able to sneak their way into a top spot job at the UAC with nothing but bad intentions…

The Nightmare -

Five years go by and the technology only improves. A man named Marcus Slayder has been working with the  UAC for five years now. Everyone respects him and fears him at the same time. He has a certain mysterious way about him but, when things go wrong deep in the Central Terminal Complex, he volunteers straight away to lead at team of engineers and egg heads into the now dark halls. Strange screaming can be heard and roaring can be heard throughout the valley where the UAC's fifteen year old fortresses of steal rest.

He moves on -

Backup is called within thirty minutes and marines rush through the Teleportation Complex, making their way through the still dark night sky. Before they can reach the Central Terminal Complex, Slayder warns them not to go further. He tells them the others were killed but that he knew a way to stop them. As the soldiers protest and go about their duty of asking him to follow them out to safety… Radio silence soon follows.

The Mission -

The sun is up by the time you, a hardened commander of the Earth Marine Corp arrives at the scene. Nobody at the barracks knew much, just that a whole team of marines and a couple of egg-heads went missing. The complex looks fine from the outside but, the saying don't judge a book by it's cover could always go both ways. You cock your pistol, take a deep breath, open the door into the dark halls of the complex.

Getting Going -

Once you've loaded the wad file and started a new game, you start in a small chamber with 5 passages around you. Two to your left, two to your right and one straight ahead.

To continue, walk into either chamber and step on the grated "Teleporter Pad" to exit the level.

First passage to your left is Episode 1 - Genesis
Second Passage to your left is Episode 2 - Dimension of the Damned
Second Passage to your right is Episode 3 - Dimension of the Red Sea
First passage to your right is Episode 4 - Shadow Dimension

The fifth passage straight ahead leads to the final level of the wad file but is, quite obviously sealed off! In order to enter this part of the level, you must first complete all four episodes (the order is up to you, though during a first time play through, we recommend going in order!)

Tech Stuff Only Nerds Like Us Care About -

Single Player/Coop (Yes)

Death Match (Yes, it'll be added to the main levels and a separate DIMENSIONS DEATH MATCH file of 6 or so maps later on)

Difficulty Settings (Yes, though if you're tough like us, play UV and if you're prepared to make us look like wussies, play Nightmare, we dare you!)

New Sounds (Maybe, we aren't sure yet. For now it's NO)

New Graphics (Yes, later on, a title screen, credits screen and exit screen at least)

How We Play Dimensions -

Controls -

We recommend having a "jump" key assigned as some gaps can't be crossed otherwise.

Mouselook may help but is, so far optional as far as level design goes.

Tips for people who aren't sure what's going on -

Some switches can only be activated by a swift punch to the metal or a bullet straight into the circuit board.

Water in Dimensions can have things hidden within it in most cases. It's always a good idea to go for a swim if you're the adventurous type.

NOTE: DO NOT TRY GOING FOR A SWIM IN ANY LIQUID THAT IS RED, ORANGE, OR GREEN.
Brown is of course, completely OK. However, be forewarned, it could be brown for a reason!

IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ.

You MAY NOT use this wad file as a base for your own levels without permission from the original authors listed above (Personnel).
You MAY NOT use the music from this wad file for any other wad without the prior consent of Abiageal O'Meara (contact her by email at abbey0237@gmail.com)
You MAY distribute this wad file in all manners, recorded CD, file sharing, or otherwise provided it has this text file included.

Thank you for playing Dimensions!

-------------------

All the usual readme mumbo jumbo! So, here's the links to both the main wad (levels) and the music wad!

Do tell us what you think! =)

Deathmatch will be added along with coop to the single player levels but, because some single player levels are small for more than 4 max players DMing, there will be a separate DM only wad. We just aren't sure how many level it'll be yet.

UPDATE: Death Match is now in place for both MAP01 and MAP02 as of 2:13 PM Standered Dec 31st 2012! =)

Maps, Wads and Mods / Re: DOOM II Projekt Xero - And greetings!

« on: December 14, 2012, 16:32:43 »
After some computer problems and a slight redraw of the blueprints for MAP03, we've finally finished it.

Kamila did take some time on other maps and may devote her vanilla project all to herself after projekt xero is done but for now, this is our top priority.

This map is mixed this time, though the main blueprints were drawn up by Kamila, Elizavetta put a lot of her ideas into it during the mapping process and as such, credit will go to the both of them when we updated the readme file.

Maps may from now on take slightly longer because we plan on trading off.

Kamila did the first 2 maps by herself but, to get everyone involved. Elizavetta will help Kamila with MAP04 as well. Than Valentine will work with Kamila on the next two, and than myself, and it'll keep going with that pattern.

We hope you enjoy =)

Kamila has also been working slightly with Deathmatch maps for the project.

The music for the UAC Research Lab Main Hall (MAP03) is already in the PRXMUS wad you have if you downloaded the last time we posted an update on the project.

General Discussion / Wad's In Progress?

« on: November 29, 2012, 00:16:32 »
We aren't sure what's going on with the website http://www.wadsinprogress.info/index.php?a=welcome

We submitted our project, it was never approved, then it was gone and all the wads dating above late 2007.

We've just checked again, and a few new old wads have shown up and ours is gone... again!

Anyone who isn't new like us in the DOOM community know anything about this?

Any light shed is better than sweeping darkness!

The demo we currently have uploaded has the old MP3 files. =)

However we will ask around just to make sure. We've also let Abiageal know she can convert the music for us because she's more music smart than us, obviously. Hopefully we'll get it all sorted out.

As for MAP02, it's almost finished and will be included in the demo hopefully with in a few days (bug testing, last minute changes, the usual!)

Thanks! We'll be sure to remember that!

Also, I sent Kamila (currently our lead mapper) to the channel since I'm lazy =)
