I like your proposal as well.
I have a few suggestions on the mock-ups you did, though. Although, I'm sure a few are just oversights.
I like the gold alternating-pixel line graphic you used. Perhaps a red and blue variant could be used for each team as opposed to the solid-color bar. I think it would look better and feel more consistent.
Also, the red player count label should probably be red, not pink. And some of the labels should be formatted with spaces better. You might consider swapping timelimit and fraglimit. It might just be me, but I like it when things are grouped according to relevance.
Just minor aesthetic things, but it's nice to address there while you are developing it, not later down the road where it might cause problems to change it.
Edit: Something I just thought of, which you should strongly consider, is capping the maximum values that can be displayed. Ping comes to mind, especially when I look at ZDaemon where you might see someone with a ping of 30,000 and it makes the scoreboard look horrible. A max of 999 should be sufficient enough for players to get the idea someone is lagging badly.
