Odamex Nitro returns for a one-night special event celebrating the release of 0.8.3! The development team spent many countless hours working on bug fixes and improved features, and now is the time to crack open the champagne. What better way to ring in the new version than getting some games in with the criminally underplayed Manual Flag Return mode? Manual Flag Return is simple; did you waste an opponent carrying your flag? Don't get comfortable yet, because you have to take that flag all the way back to your base and return it yourself. Combine that with RageCTF, and we got ourselves a party.

WHEN: Sunday, May 17th @ 5:00pm EDT

General Discussion / MDF FFA Tournament US #5 - September 21st @ 5pm EST

« on: September 15, 2019, 11:00:17 »
Multiplayer Doom Federation FFA Tournament US #5 September 2019 - https://discord.gg/YQyg4cf

Date: Saturday, September 21st @ 5pm EST

Objective:

The objective of the tournament is to accumulate the most points throughout a series of rounds, playing across a total of 6 maps. The target is for each player to play every map twice. Points are awarded based on scoring position.

Point Distribution:

1st place: 6 points
2nd place: 4 points
3rd place: 3 points
4th place: 2 points
5th and under: 1 point

Gameplay:

All players of a particular round join the server at once and will play the same number of maps, but the actual lineup of each round will be randomized. Admins will announce the player lineup for every following round, and the selected players will join the game and the map will be restarted for them. This should speed up the proceedings while keeping the tourney spiritually free-for-all. If it’s not your round, you simply idle in the server.

The maps have been chosen for their variation of styles (pace, spam, player/frag/time limit) and we’ll try to make sure everyone plays across all of them, but this part will be heavily dependent on the player signups and randomization. It should ensure, however, that you don’t meet the same opponents often.

Maps:

Dwango6 map09
Chill3 map01
Obsdm map01
Obsdm map19
UDM2 map02
Greenwar map09

Devoblog / Nitro Passes Its Torch

« on: February 18, 2013, 13:35:10 »
It is with both sadness and excitement that I write to you today about Odamex Nitro and it's future plans. Don't worry, Nitro will still continue as it has since it began some 78 weeks ago, on August 20th, 2011. No, today is a sad day for Hex and myself as we've decided to move on from running Nitro every week. We are both really happy about the way Nitro has managed to form a community within a community. It's been extremely gratifying to see many Doomworld players pop in from time to time, and we have especially enjoyed working in tandem with the 32in24 team on two of their best releases. However, as with most things, there is a time to step aside to give other people a chance, and that time is now.

We'd like to thank the Odamex developers and staff for their continued support, as well as everyone who took an interest in joining these little sessions.

Taking over for us will be Decay, Hypnotoad, and Hendrick who have plenty of ideas of their own. We feel these guys are more than capable of keeping this going, and hopefully you show them as much respect as you showed us. Here is to the future, good luck guys!

Looking forward to it for sure! Screenshots look awesome. Always happy to see new CTF wads being made, especially when they are pretty damn good.

Maps, Wads and Mods / Odamex Saturday Nitro Mapping Event

« on: February 26, 2012, 13:32:58 »
I’m pleased to announce the first Odamex Saturday Nitro Mapping Event! If you haven’t heard of Odamex Saturday Nitro, it is a weekly event held on Odamex that brings everyone together to play their favorite wads which has become very popular and is helping to shape the Odamex community. Nitro is a great place to showcase all types of wads, and that’s where this mapping event comes in. I’d like to get a bunch of people together to make some DM maps specifically for a Nitro session. The maps will be compiled into one wad and it will be run as one of our weekly sessions. Hopefully most of you can participate, but let’s get into the details first:

Deadlines
Start date: February 26th
End date: March 2nd  - This means ALL maps must be submitted to me by 11:59pm on the 2nd. We want to make sure the wad is ready to go by Saturday at 8pm.

Resources
Let’s not go crazy this time around. No custom textures or graphics: Doom 2 resources only! A midi for your map is fine.

This time around, I’m looking for at least 12-16 medium or large-sized maps. If we get more people willing to make maps, that’s great! You also have to remember that the player limit for most sessions is 12, so we don’t want to make any maps too small. I would say a map that fits 8 or more players at a time is acceptable.

I don’t think I forgot any details, but you can either post your questions here or find me in #odamex on irc.quakenet.org and I can hopefully answer them for you.

General Discussion / Re: A serious TDM league

« on: February 25, 2012, 12:45:55 »
I had a TDM tournament all planned out, with maps and everything.. IDL got in the way unfortunately. Perhaps this is a good place for it? Here's what I had planned:

2v2 TDM tournament with 8 teams. I believe I had a pool of 5 maps to choose from. The map process would be similar to ZDDL. Each team eliminates one map, and then plays for the best of 3. There's really not too much else to plan, except I'd have to dig up the 5 maps I had to see if, a few months removed from even thinking about it, they were good maps to play TDM on.

I can start this as soon as possible if there are some interested parties!

Devoblog / Reintroducing... ODAMEX NITRO

« on: August 09, 2011, 17:33:44 »

That's right folks! One of the hardest things to do when trying to play Odamex is finding people to play with. Fear no more, because we'll find people for you! Every Saturday at 8pm EST we'll be injecting a huge dose of Odamex directly into your veins. Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture The Flag; you name it! The only thing we can't offer you is a spot at the top of the leaderboards.. you'll have to join and achieve that yourself.

These sessions are aimed are creating a worthwhile, competitive, and fun experience on the port we all love. Got suggestions? Leave them here! How successful we are is up to you guys. There's great opportunity to expand to more than once a week, so make it happen! Stay tuned for a further announcement regarding Nitro #1, which will take place on Saturday, August 20th @ 8pm EST. Don't be late!

(Any questions, concerns, complaints, and insults can be directed towards HeX9109 and myself).
