Odamex Nitro returns for a one-night special event celebrating the release of 0.8.3! The development team spent many countless hours working on bug fixes and improved features, and now is the time to crack open the champagne. What better way to ring in the new version than getting some games in with the criminally underplayed Manual Flag Return mode? Manual Flag Return is simple; did you waste an opponent carrying your flag? Don't get comfortable yet, because you have to take that flag all the way back to your base and return it yourself. Combine that with RageCTF, and we got ourselves a party.

WHEN: Sunday, May 17th @ 5:00pm EDT

General Discussion / MDF FFA Tournament US #5 - September 21st @ 5pm EST

« on: September 15, 2019, 11:00:17 »
Multiplayer Doom Federation FFA Tournament US #5 September 2019 - https://discord.gg/YQyg4cf

Date: Saturday, September 21st @ 5pm EST

Objective:

The objective of the tournament is to accumulate the most points throughout a series of rounds, playing across a total of 6 maps. The target is for each player to play every map twice. Points are awarded based on scoring position.

Point Distribution:

1st place: 6 points
2nd place: 4 points
3rd place: 3 points
4th place: 2 points
5th and under: 1 point

Gameplay:

All players of a particular round join the server at once and will play the same number of maps, but the actual lineup of each round will be randomized. Admins will announce the player lineup for every following round, and the selected players will join the game and the map will be restarted for them. This should speed up the proceedings while keeping the tourney spiritually free-for-all. If it’s not your round, you simply idle in the server.

The maps have been chosen for their variation of styles (pace, spam, player/frag/time limit) and we’ll try to make sure everyone plays across all of them, but this part will be heavily dependent on the player signups and randomization. It should ensure, however, that you don’t meet the same opponents often.

Maps:

Dwango6 map09
Chill3 map01
Obsdm map01
Obsdm map19
UDM2 map02
Greenwar map09

WAD: <will be provided soon>

Don't run out to the eye doctor, your sight is just fine: Odamex Nitro has returned! We are thrilled to be back in the saddle and supporting the recent release of Odamex 0.8.0 - the first in almost 5 years! Nitro represented some truly special moments in the history of Odamex, and together we can create new and exciting memories that will last a lifetime. Last but not least, for the first time in Nitro history, we will be running both Euro AND US sessions!

For a full list of changes made for 0.8.0, visit the Odamex Wiki. The best way to get involved in the community is to join the Odamex Discord where you'll be able to chat with other players and track development.

Nitro Zone / Nitro #201 - Lazarus TDM

« on: February 10, 2017, 10:19:45 »

Lazarus has become one of those new classics that everyone loves to play. I think it remains as a very underplayed wad despite its popularity, so let's try some Team Deathmatch with it.

We have finally reached #200, and what better way to celebrate than jumping into a great classic like UDM3? UDM3 has always been a very popular set of maps for both duels and regular deathmatch, so let's do it!

Nitro Zone / Nitro #199 - 8 bit CTF

« on: January 16, 2017, 10:19:58 »

We return back right where we left off with #199 and a chaos inducing set of maps known as 8 bit CTF! Some of these maps may be hard to look at but the layouts and gameplay make up for any potential seizures you may have while operating this wad. I'm ready, but are you?!

Mode: CTF
Maps: 9 (map01 - map09)
Players: 8v8

The Doom community has always been a close-knit group of friends, and over the years we've had to experience the unfortunate passing of far too many of these friends. I think it is important for us to remember them and their contributions, and not many Doomers will ever manage to contribute to or influence the Doom community as much as Toke has.

Toke was a great friend to not only me, but so many other people. He may have also been someone's pain in the ass, but only because he was so passionate about the game we all love and the direction it was heading in. I know I'm not the only one who spent hours talking to him strictly about Doom without ever getting bored. He was in the process of creating a "hub" website that would more or less connect each multiplayer community, something I was very happy he asked me to be a part of. His generosity is something I have always remembered.

He was also an accomplished mapper, between releasing a classic competitive 1v1 map in moo2d, taking public FFA on ZDaemon by storm with omgmaps, or even putting out his own coop wad. It is difficult to sum up everything he did for Doom in a trite forum post, which is why as we approach the 10th anniversary of his death I would like to honor him in a different way.

Friday, August 19th, I will run a medley of his DM wads - to me, the gold standard in FFA/TDM play in the early 00s. Saturday, August 20th, I will hold a small one-day 1v1 tournament on moo2d. Signups for that will open on a date TBA, but will be limited to 10 players. Both events will be run on Odamex and hopefully you can set aside your personal preferences for at least one evening in memory of our friend Toke.

Devoblog / Nitro Passes Its Torch

« on: February 18, 2013, 13:35:10 »
It is with both sadness and excitement that I write to you today about Odamex Nitro and it's future plans. Don't worry, Nitro will still continue as it has since it began some 78 weeks ago, on August 20th, 2011. No, today is a sad day for Hex and myself as we've decided to move on from running Nitro every week. We are both really happy about the way Nitro has managed to form a community within a community. It's been extremely gratifying to see many Doomworld players pop in from time to time, and we have especially enjoyed working in tandem with the 32in24 team on two of their best releases. However, as with most things, there is a time to step aside to give other people a chance, and that time is now.

We'd like to thank the Odamex developers and staff for their continued support, as well as everyone who took an interest in joining these little sessions.

Taking over for us will be Decay, Hypnotoad, and Hendrick who have plenty of ideas of their own. We feel these guys are more than capable of keeping this going, and hopefully you show them as much respect as you showed us. Here is to the future, good luck guys!

Nitro Zone / Nitro #75 - Lethal DM 2 Team Deathmatch

« on: January 25, 2013, 11:45:08 »

Lethal DM 2 will be a blast for anyone who enjoys the typical NS features such as freelook and jump, and we've even managed to get some railguns in there. This is a bit of a departure from what we normally play, so I hope it's a good one!

The bigger news is that we're finally going to have a European time/server for Nitro! Yes, it only took a year and a half but lately I've noticed a lot of people asking for a session that won't put them to sleep, so ask and you shall receive. Here is to many future European Nitros!
