Technical Support / Multiplatform launcher is ALIVE!!!

« on: December 29, 2006, 09:42:53 »
A major milestone has been hit in the wx Launcher development process.  I don't know how regularly you guys check the wiki, but the Launcher now officially runs on all three major platforms natively.  Screenshots of this latest breakthrough can be seen here:

Hats off to our development team for making this happen.

Maps, Wads and Mods / Re: Classic CTF

« on: December 09, 2006, 22:25:01 »
I ported all the ZDaemon CTF maps to Skulltag but never released it, it was all the same maps but with Team Starts and The Standard CTF stuff.

I think ZDaemon used CTFDoom as kind of a base... Can you play CTFDoom maps in ZDaemon nativly?

I dont think so.  I remember being around when CTF was being coded, and there was no mention of CTFDoom.  There was a coder named duke4ever who did the majority of the CTF code, then Kilgore cleaned it up, and from following their development (I remember making a test CTF map based on E1M1 back when there were no such things as team starts) ,it didn't look like their code was based on anything.

Alex Max - TNX a lot! now I just must to learn how to work
in BOOM format, i never trying it - is that very different from DoomInHexen?

It's not like Hexen editing, it's more like Doom editing++. Imagine Doom with a million added linedefs and sector specials. That's Boom.

If you want to make maps that will work in Odamex, use the "Boom" configuration.

If you want to make CTF maps that will work in Odamex (and indeed in the other two source ports), use the "Boom" configuration until you are ready to plop down CTF starts and flags. Then, use the "Skulltag (Doom in Doom format)" configuration for placing flags and starts and only flags and starts, nothing else. Once you do so, immediatly switch back to "Boom" configuration. The flags and starts you just placed will show up as "?"'s instead of what they are supposed to, rest assured they will still work.

"Yes, odamex remains true to oldschool doom multiplayer, which is a higher priority than anything else."

Technical Support / Re: wx based GetWad replacement

Not likely, unless some server admin edits out the code that excludes doom.wad/doom2.wad from being sent and recompiles it.

Being open source, there is nothing we can do about that though.  It's not like our tool would be facilitating piracy, if our defaults rule out commercial wads then we are showing good faith in preventing such piracy.  If someone wants to mod the source and strip out the download-prevention code, that's their bag, not ours.

MAP03 crashes in both ZDaemon and Skulltag.

Fixed.  Check my website for an updated version.

I have an RC2 ISO and a working key laying around somewhere.  I suppose I could give it a shot myself.

I recommend Something Epic (ZDCTF Map08)...thats if you can convert them (dunno who made it and such).

ZDCTFMP and ZDCTFMP2 are projects I organized.  Some of the maps I listed are mine.  Others are by authors who left the community long ago, leaving their maps in my hands.  Since the objective is not to 'update' but to 'standardize' the maps to reach a wider audience, I don't feel guilty about not being able to reach them.  These maps deserve better than to be lost to an obsolete CTF Standard.

Maps, Wads and Mods / Classic CTF

« on: November 09, 2006, 17:28:11 »
A topic for each project, I suppose...

Tonight I finished Beta 2 of Classic CTF. What is Classic CTF? Well, it is...

Code: [Select]
MAP01: Fortress Collision (ZDCTFMP MAP01)
MAP02: Refineries (ZDCTFMP MAP02)
MAP03: Exophase (ZDCTFMP MAP03, got permission from Exl)
MAP04: Cursed (ZDCTFMP MAP06)
MAP05: The Excavation (ZDCTFMP MAP07)
MAP06: Something Epic (ZDCTFMP MAP08)
MAP07: Frozen (ZDCTFMP MAP09)
MAP08: UAC Headquarters (ZDCTFMP2 MAP19, got permission from Seismos)

...all converted to Boom. And they're all done and converted too, so you can try them out now. All I need is to come up with a logo for the title screen, and also address bugs that come up durring testing. Once that's settled, then Odamex (and also Skulltag (!)) will be able to, for the first time, play maps that were formally locked into ZDaemon.

Get it here.

P.S. I support your war of terror.

Technical Support / Re: Mac OS X support

« on: November 08, 2006, 06:49:58 »
Our lead coder, denis, uses a Mac as his primary development machine, so I think it's a safe bet that Mac support, and indeed running on multiple platforms in general, is pretty much a given.

Hexen support is out as of right now, due to the fact that Raven's licence is not GPL compatable.  Mouselook works, though.
