Need help installing Mac OS X
« on: March 19, 2007, 23:49:06 »
I downloaded 0.1 because that was the only version we got so far. I got the libs and they say get wxWidgets. I got wxMac (the newest version) or whatever.

So I got the frameworks (SDL, and Mixer) to run the client. Now how the hell do I get wx working so I can use the launcher.

I haven't played yet because its just very confusing, and I suppose getting the launcher working will be best.

PS: Can I just boot from the client? How?

Ok I booted from client into Single Player successfully. But I'm still having trouble getting wxMac working. I have 2.8.2.

Yeah we're still trying to find someone who can maintain a mac binary package.  I recommend once you get what you have working to check out a copy of the svn repository so you have the latest source.

We've not had documentation drawn up yet for how to get wx going/compiling the launcher on a mac, but if you do figure it out please write down your steps and add it to the wiki, it would be greatly appreciated.

Try checking out wxwidgets' website for help on getting wx to compile.

Thanks :). I did infact find a wxMac page showing how to properly install it

Here: http://www.wxwidgets.org/wiki/index.php/Building_WxWidgets_With_MacOS_X

The confusing part of it though is the ./configure. It says you can configure the script in many ways. Do I have to configure it in a certain way for the launcher to work? And how

PS: I've read the Xcode source compiling thing and it says a way to configure it but it doesn't see it as a proper command.

Ok, once again .configure problems. It says I'm missing gcc or something. Do I need that to install wxWidgets?

Here's a terminal log.

As you can see I have no idea what I am doing. I did something with opengl configure, and it did this. Really, all I want is this thing to install :D.

Ok I think I'm just going to wait until a more stable version of Odamex on Mac OS X comes out. I realise its still in development, but I just don't like using unix and stuff to get this thing working. I'll still be checking this place, however. Thanks for your help.

It's not about being "stable".  Your problem is that it can't find your compiler.  Do you have GCC installed?  Surely you must to have been able to compile the client and server.  If you have not, then you need to have that.  The source you're compiling from will continue to be like this unless someone magically cooks up some totally different way to build this stuff.

It's perfectly readable and does not require proper spacing, so there's no need to place it in a code tag. And don't even start with that backseat moderating business. We don't need it.
