General Discussion / Patching Your Copy of DOOM and DOOM 2

« on: January 22, 2019, 11:39:48 »
Note: If you have the original Steam releases of the Doom games (not the bfg edition) you are up-to-date and do not need to bother reading this.

As you may or may not be aware, several versions of Doom were released between 1993 and 1995 due to bugs being found, and features being added. You can find all of the history for the releases here. The latest version of all of the iwads are final version "1.9"

IWADVerifier
I made a release of my own IWADVerifier, written in pure Golang, and it is hosted on GitHUB. So you can use it for Windows, Linux and MacOSX without trouble. And it supports several new IWADs, even Freedoom !

The reason I did this is because Russell's version of IWADVerifier is nowhere to be found (unless you go to Archive.org)... Besides, we have gotten new IWADs, so we had to update the list.

IWADPatcher 1.2
Phenex2 also made a better patcher for Doom/Doom2, in order to support Doom XBLA/BFG Edition. His commandline tool is extremely good, and supports other games than DooM.

That's all for now.

Developer's Corner / Odamex's PWAD Compatibility list

« on: January 21, 2019, 04:31:12 »
Greetings everyone,

Given the upcoming 0.8.0 (which arrives really soon), I think it'll be time to make sure to know for the community a PWADs/MegaWADs compatibility list that are guaranteed to work with Odamex.

If you add a WAD to the list, please write the following details, so that it can give the developers better hints in tracking some errors :

Quote
WADNAME
• Can it run without having a crash ?
• Does it have errors in the console ? (i.e. missing or incompatible lumps)
• Can it be played in solo fine ? In multiplayer ? And, can it be fully completable ?
• (OPTIONAL - if vanilla-compatible) Can vanilla demos be playbacked ?
• (OPTIONAL) additionnal infos you might tell us

That way, we could also add entries to the Wiki, so that everyone could be aware of what's working, and what's probably not.
